Welcome to the Online Archive
This archive provides a supplement to my book on Fighting Terrorism and Drugs: Europe and International Police Cooperation (London and New York: Routledge, 2008).
Half of the case studies in that book are concerned with the 1960s and 1970s. The archive contains most of the primary sources mentioned in the footnotes to these case studies.
- Material from national archives: British National Archives, French Diplomatic Archives, and Centre des Archives Contemporaines, German Federal Archive, Italian Diplomatic Archive
- Protocols of parliamentary debates
- Newspaper articles
- Official documents from international organizations: United Nations and Council of Europe
An extended version of the archive, including documents from the French Diplomatic Archives and a short description of those files which could not be provided here, is found on the webpage of the Historical Archives of the European Union.
All documents were retrieved in the context of a research project on the Internationalization of the Monopoly of the Legitimate Use of Force.
The material on Britain and Italy was collected by Jörg Friedrichs. Most material on France and Germany was collected by Eva Herschinger, Christiane Kasack, and Axel Domeyer.
Thanks are due to the British National Archives, the French Diplomatic Archives, and the German Federal Archive for permission to publish the relevant documents.
